課程概述 |
Course Description:
There are several important abilities involved in the use of human language, one of these being the ability to organize speech sounds. The system that the brain uses to accomplish this task is the subject matter of phonology. This course will explore different aspects of phonology within generative linguistics, using constraint-based frameworks in Optimality Theory (Prince & Smolensky 1993/2004). Topics to be discussed include syllables, distinctive features, HoP-HoT, metrical phonology, and morphology-phonology interface.

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Be able to formulate analyses in OT.
• Be able to argue effectively for a given analysis.
• Be able to read and interpret original research in OT.

• Students will be assessed using seven assignments and a final exam.
• Attendance is mandatory.
